Sample Prep Disposable Cartridge for NGS Instrument

Background:

Accel Biotech developed a sample prep cartridge for a DNA sequencing instrument. The cartridge utilized microfluidic channels and a rotary valve to move liquid and magnetic beads through a series of wash steps and into PCR wells.

My Contribution:

I became the lead design engineer on the prototype cartridge after a colleague left the company. I completed CAD design and engineering drawings of the cartridge parts on a tight time line and budget  I led troubleshooting of magnetic bead performance in order to facilitate high quality of extracted DNA. The disposable cartridge was successfully able to purify and prep DNA for sequencing.

•Design of static and dynamic compression seals

•SolidWorks Flow Simulation

•Design of magnetic bead capture station and mixing
