Background:
Accel Biotech developed an automated sample to answer qPCR prototype instrument. A belt driven 3- axis robot and pipetting system moved liquid to different zones on a disposable cartridge to perform DNA extraction and a PCR reaction.
My contribution:
I was the lead mechanical engineer from initial concept through development of a final instrument. I initiated the design and testing of the injection molded disposable cartridge, cartridge loading and interfacing to the instrument and an automated air displacement pipettor. I designed the system layout and generated cable drawings for all of the cables on the system.
